Teamsters Apprenticeship Program

The Teamsters Apprenticeship program is a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor, ABF Freight and Teamsters Local Union 25. The goal is to help people interested in obtaining their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and driving freight get all their necessary training for free.

Our Target Audience

A flow chart explaining the target audience for the apprenticeship program. Recent High School graduates go to the dock worker training program to become doc workers until they can get a CDL to drive intrastate at 25. People 25 and older start off at CDL course and on passing the course and getting their license are tracked for a year before officially leaving the program.

The IBT Worker Training Program’s Apprenticeship Program partners with ABF and Teamsters Local Union 25 to provide training to:

  • Current Workers who want to obtain a Class A CDL
  • Recent High School graduates interested in starting a career in the Transportation Industry
  • Transitioning Military Personnel who already have driving experience

ABF Freight hosts classes in locations across the country for transitioning veterans leaving the military for civilian life. The six week program gets the new drivers up to ABF's high standard making them ready for work upon graduation.

Teamsters Local 25 is located in Tewksberry, MA outside of Boston. The program takes all types of interested applicants and works with them for as long as it takes to get them ready for the CDL exam.
